8 day kilimanjaro climb through marangu road
8 day kilimanjaro climb - Overview
The most economical and well-traveled route is the Marangu route. It is the only route that provides mountain cabins for overnight stays rather than tents. The path leads directly to the top and back down the same way. Because of the substantial daily elevation variations, this route is only appropriate for experienced climbers. It takes five days to complete the ascent via the Marangu route. To allow your body to acclimate to the high altitude, it is advised to add an additional day. On the fourth day, if you’d like, you can spend an additional night in Horombo huts and go on an acclimatization hike. Your prospects of reaching the peak are greatly increased by this additional day.
Fitness needed to climb mount Kilimanjaro
Climbing Kilimanjaro is challenging due to the altitude, steep ascents, and changing temperatures, but it is achievable with proper preparation. On most days, you will walk for six to seven hours, so pacing yourself is crucial. Hiking too fast makes it harder for your body to adjust, while a steady pace helps with acclimatization. Being in good shape also makes the climb easier, so start training a few months in advance. Multi-day hikes are ideal, but running and other cardio exercises also help. Altitude sickness is unpredictable, but you can reduce the risk by adding an extra day to your trek, giving your body more time to adjust and improving your chances of reaching the summit. 8 Day Kilimanjaro Climb Marangu Route
On the first morning, your guide drives you to Marangu Gate, passing banana and coffee farms before entering the jungle. After a seven-hour climb, you reach the Mandara huts. In the afternoon, you can relax and enjoy the surroundings or visit the nearby Maundi Crater. Remember to stay hydrated as it's your first day at higher elevation.
Mandara Huts
The terrain gradually shifts from cloud forests to grass plains with heather and other plants after leaving Mandara Huts. As you ascend, the flora becomes less visible and the terrain begins to resemble the moon. Additionally, the air is getting thinner. You can do a 200-meter acclimatization hike a few hours after lunch, after which you can head back to Horombo Huts for dinner and the night.
Horombo Huts
To get to a place between the two well-known mountain peaks, Kibo and Mawenzi, your journey today takes you through a sort of Alpine desert. It's a strenuous hike that passes across open areas with little cover. After lunch at Kibo Camp, you can unwind in anticipation of the exciting day ahead!
Kibo Huts
You begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak in the middle of the night using a flashlight. The first portion of this climb, up to Gilman's Point, is the most difficult. Uhuru Peak is not far away and is reasonably straightforward to go to from here. Enjoy a stunning sunrise after you reach the summit quite remarkable at this altitude! You start your descent through the Kibo Huts Camp to the Horombo huts for dinner and overnight after celebrating this accomplishment at the top. You will be standing for around twelve hours today, so get ready for a demanding yet worthwhile day!
You descend to Marangu Gate, the Kilimanjaro National Park's exit, on your last day on the mountain. This is a fantastic five to six-hour hike through Kilimanjaro's stunning woods. After that, your guide drives you to your hotel, where you can relax properly.
